A funny moment at a serious time!!

We all arrived for the dedication of the grave. We all got out and headed over, but for some reason they weren't opening the hearse then they informed us that it was locked with the keys and casket inside. We all had to laugh saying that dad wanted his family together for a little while longer. We had to wait about twenty minute for the extra key to arrive, it really was funny everyone was able to visit and the kids were able to get extra wound up by throwing snow and getting as wet as possible.

memories of Dad and Grandpa

As many of you know Kim's dad passed away last week. These are a few of his memories.

Now that I am in my fifties and can reflect back I now realize that parents are in the business of creating memories. They create them as their children are born and raised. When their children leave home to start lives of their own, they are still there to make more memories with their grand kids.

As I have thought about dad these last few days I have many memories of him. In my younger years I remember every one of his days off was spent with us kids, and mom. We spent time fishing and hunting. One weekend might be spent going to Delta to get a block of cheese, stopping at the sand dunes where we would find some sage brush to burn down so we could roast a hot dog. (Cyndy and I did this with our kids too.) Then we might look for a few jack rabbits to hunt.

As I grew up I remember the deer hunting trips that dad and I would take .We would load up the Bronco and off we would go. Dad would drive and let me out and I would hike up the mountain to push the deer out. I loved the time I spent with my dad. we had some great talks and he gave me a lot of advice that helped me make important decisions in my life. I appreciate my dad for taking the time with me. It meant so much to me.

As I married and had a family of my own he continued to make memories. He loved going to Posey Lake for camping trips and my family and I would tag along. He loved the outdoors and was a great fisherman. He enjoyed driving through the town where he was born and pointing important things of his youth out to us. He never missed a memorial day to drive out to Eureka and clean up the graves of his relatives and leave flowers for them. In his later years he also enjoyed going down to Mesquite for a little bit of gambling.

Dad was very out spoken and had an opinion about everything. I enjoyed going home to visit dad and mom to listen to all his opinions, about politics, news items, and the world events. He always had some great stories about his life as a youth and stories of friends, family, his days in the army and, about every other subject you could imagine. We would listen to him for hours. There was never a quiet moment when dad was around. He kept us laughing that's for sure.
Dad loved the gospel and lived it to the fullest. He had a deep testimony of it and shared that with us often, He was a kind and generous man. He was honest about his dealings with everyone. He was faithful in the gospel and passed it on to his children.
Dad I want you to know, you were a Dad I was proud of. I enjoyed out time together as father and son. I will always remember your loud voice when you talked about all the things that were important to you. I want you to know I will think of you often and, will still be listening with all my heat.
Till we meet again Dad I love you.
